This is a rather drastic decision by the New York Government. Better is to have launched a public campaign of the dangers of sugary drinks. And also to qualify what they mean by sugary drinks.

Populace have a right o decide what they take, don’t you think?

Another point to note is that a research has just proven Sugary drinks to be deleterious to Health. More research still needs to be done to substantiate this observation with relevant Evidence based Medicine inputs.

Methinks the New York Govt. should be cautious.

Are you kidding me, ban them all ban them sugars.
Research has proven that, apart from the from the huge damage that large amount of sugars does to the body, sugars are .Implication,it can kill, its like alcohol or cocaine or igbo-indian hemp etc.
LLets encourage cleaner sugars like fruit sugars and the ones we get directly from carbo foods

    This is quite ridicuous!

ANYTHING takiem n excess IS harmful – water, salt, whatever!

What do you think? Is this a step in the right direction?

A better approach may be to rev up the drove to increase public awareness of the bad effect of excessive sugar intake. Chikenah!

Who says I can not buy multiple containers of the scaled_down volume?

Yes, i agree that sugary drinks can cause situations like obesity, diabetes etc, but a sweeping ban on say any sugary drink sold in container over 500mls will not solve any problem. I can decide to buy 5 bottles of 200mls each and down all at a go. EyeBeeKay’s arguement above is valid. Selective ban of sugary drinks not obtained from natural fruits may be a better option.

All in all, i would advocate an intensive publicity and campaign against sugars and fast foods, making people realise why these food items are not wholesome.
